14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has slashed the price on its high-end MacBook Air (SSD) by as much as $500. The price reduction is most significant for those looking to acquire a unit, especially the model featuring a 64GB, solid state drive.
Various reports are noting that the price of the 64 GB SSD drive has been dropped by as much as $400, from $999 to $599 (see above). However, the storage device used by the MacBook Air isn't the only part experiencing a price cut. The price of the Air's 1.8 GHz CPU has also been dropped from $300 to $200.
Adding up the two price reductions, tech savvy folks and fans of the MacBook Air can now get "the world's thinnest notebook" for a sweet $2598 ($500 cheaper than the original $3098 pricing). According to Tech-Ex, customers with orders in progress will receive this email from the Mac makers:

Apple has announced a price drop for a component(s) of the MacBook Air that you recently ordered. We have automatically adjusted your order to reflect the new lower price.

Apple's MacBook Air, touted as "the world's thinnest notebook," weighs 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg) and measures 0.76 inches (1.93 cm) at its thickest point and 0.16 inches (0.4 cm) at its thinnest. It was introduced on January 15th, 2008, with Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, stating the following: "We've built the world's thinnest notebook-without sacrificing a full-size keyboard or a full-size 13-inch display. [?] When you first see MacBook Air, it's hard to believe it's a high-performance notebook with a full-size keyboard and display. But it is."
