Cupertino updates the construction and traffic status weekly

With Apple’s permission, the City of Cupertino has published new information regarding the company’s so-called “spaceship” campus building to its web site. This includes new traffic and construction information as well as an aerial photo of the work in progress.

Pitched in 2011 by visionary Steve Jobs himself, the Apple Campus 2 is one of the most ambitious projects of its kind. A circular building larger even than the Pentagon, Apple’s “spaceship” building will be an architectural landmark, not just for the City of Cupertino, but for the entire world.

Colossal green areas are planned for the outer and inner sides of the ring-shaped establishment, parking lots unlike anywhere else in the world, windows as tall as entire houses, and the whole building will be powered by renewable energy. One big problem, however, is getting there. Word on the Cupertino site is that it won’t be completed until the end of 2016. Steve Jobs had initially planned a 2015 completion of the massive project.

Construction and traffic update

Cupertino.org is featuring new information on the campus building, at Apple’s request, including changes that motorists can expect in traffic around the construction site and a new image of the work underway.

“Motorists can expect traffic delays in the vicinity of the Apple Campus 2 site. Construction work hours are from 7 am to 7 pm weekdays and from 9 am to 6 pm weekends, with additional traffic restrictions (additional lane closures, etc.) occurring between the hours of 9 am and 4:30 pm weekdays,” reads a notice.

The City of Cupertino shares some specific construction impacts, such as lane reductions on Wolfe Road between Pruneridge Avenue and Homestead Road, traffic reduced to a single lane on the left turn from northbound Wolfe road to westbound Homestead Road, a closed sidewalk along the east side of Wolfe Road between Vallco Mall and Homestead Road, and the permanent closing of Pruneridge Avenue between the Hamptons driveway and Tantau Avenue.

Watermarked photo

Earlier this week, a YouTuber released footage taken with a drone hovering over the construction site, revealing the progress Apple has made thus far with the building. A similar image is now being shared by the iPhone maker itself. The pic is watermarked “Apple Inc.,” likely to thwart any images circulating on the web that might be manipulated or taken at an angle that tells a different story.

Those interested in getting the full scoop on Apple’s spaceship campus can visit cupertino.org and review the endless documentation there.
