Apple has started notifying those enrolled with the company’s developer programs that December 31 is the last day Mac apps can be submitted for review, to be featured in the initial batch of apps upon the Mac App Store’s debut on January 6.

In a report issued minutes ago, Apple confirmed January 6 as the launch date of its forthcoming Mac App Store, which aims to make discovering, installing and updating Mac apps easier than ever before.

“The App Store revolutionized mobile apps,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun. We can’t wait to get started on January 6.”

In a note sent out to developers today, Apple is urging developers to polish up their apps and submit (screenshot above).

“Get your Mac apps ready for the Mac App Store.

Opens January 6. Submit your apps by December 31.”

MacStories points out that submissions for Mac apps opened on November 4th. During this time, Apple already managed to find problems with some apps which, needless to point out, got rejected.

On its website, Apple explains that “The Mac App Store is just like the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. So it’s as easy to find and download Mac apps as it is to add your favorite magazine to iPad or a new game to iPod touch.”

“You can browse Mac apps by category, such as games, productivity, music, and more. Or do a quick search for something specific. Read developer descriptions and user reviews. Flip through screenshots. When you find an app you like, click to buy it.”

Also noteworthy, it is becoming increasingly apparent that a new version of the iWork productivity suite is scheduled to debut alongside the Mac App Store.
