American customers who ordered a 27-inch iMac just as Apple was making them available are beginning to receive notifications that their computers are “preparing for shipment.”

Customers are reporting that Apple is still listing the 2-3 weeks shipping quota, which means some iMacs may not arrive in time for Christmas. Some units may ship as late as December 31, according to a screenshot stemming from MacRumors’ forums.

Apple’s 27-inch Late 2012 iMacs start at $1,799 (€1.879 in Europe) for the 2,9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 configuration with 8GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics with 512MB of VRAM.

The 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 configuration with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX (1GB of VRAM) sells for $1,999 (€2.049). The base 21.5” configuration models are ready to ship in 7-10 business days according to Apple.
