Apple has seeded to its team of developers the third build of the latest maintenance update to Mac OS X, version 10.5.5. Bringing the total number of fixes to 120, build 9F17 introduces five new fixes, people familiar with Apple's plans have revealed.

Courtesy of AppleInsider, we can inform you that Apple has addressed some issues with iCal Invitations, as well as read-only local calendars, Back to My Mac, Mail syncing, and CoreAnimation. Reported to include no known issues (always a sign of a nearing official release), the new pre-release seed contains no changes as far as focus areas are concerned. Just like with the previous build (9F13), developers are still asked to focus on:

- AirPort - Address Book - AppKit - Directory Services - FileSync and Portable Home Directories - Finder - Fonts - GraphicsDrivers - Help Viewer - iCal - iChat - ImageIO - Kerberos - mDNSResponder - Networking - Printing - Screen Sharing - SMB - Spotlight - Text Services - Time Machine - Traditional Chinese Input Method - USB & Express Card Modems - X11

When Apple issued the first 10.5.5 build (9F5) to developers, the company behind the Mac OS X operating system included notes advising testers to take extra caution when installing the initial version of the software. Installing Mac OS X 10.5.5 build 9F5 on Macs that contain integrated graphics chips was a no-no, Apple said, and asked developers to focus on a dozen and a half core system components, many of which are listed above. Around 80 bugs of Mac OS X 10.5.4 have been dealt with in the first build of 10.5.5.

9F13, the second 10.5.5 build seeded to Apple's developer community, contained a warning in regards to a problem with some images that could cause Aperture to quit unexpectedly. AppleInsider points out to improvements made to Power Management and Energy Saver settings for Mac notebooks, but also to a fix for MobileMe's DMNotification. Lastly, Apple also addressed issues with Mail Sync and Preferences syncing, multiple TCP connections and Application Firewall, and the BSD Kernel and HFS+ file system.

Apple is widely expected to officially release the 10.5.5 maintenance update to the public in the following weeks.
