Apple has issued a press statement to announce that its iTunes Store has just hit 25 billion song downloads. The guy who unknowingly stopped the countdown got a €10,000 ($13,500) iTunes Gift Card.

The Cupertino company usually announces whenever it has a contest going, but this time around it seems it came out of the blue.

The Mac maker has just announced 25 billion song downloads via iTunes, adding that “the 25 billionth song, ‘Monkey Drums’ (Goksel Vancin Remix) by Chase Buch, was purchased by Phillip Lüpke from Germany.”

Apple added, “As the downloader of the 25 billionth song, Phillip will receive a €10,000 iTunes Gift Card.” Great job, Phillip!

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said “We are grateful to our users whose passion for music over the past 10 years has made iTunes the number one music retailer in the world.”
