In a statement provided to the WSJ-owned, AllThingsD, an Apple spokesperson acknowledged the widespread battery drain issues experienced by customers worldwide, but asserted that only a limited number of people are affected.

Despite a growing number of negative comments on the Apple Support Communities site, Apple told the aforementioned blog that “A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices.”

However, it would seem that only iPhone 4S devices are the culprit this time around.

Apple added: “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

In the meanwhile, the company seeded an iOS 5.0.1 beta to its developer community to test the newly implemented patch, as well as fixes for other non-related issues.
