Apple has issued an update for owners of Early 2008 Xserves, addressing issues that cause frequent power supply and fan notifications to be sent. The update, which also includes changes to the Lights-Out Management environment of the Xserve, is listed as “strongly recommended for all Xserve (Early 2008) systems.”

This update includes changes to the Lights-Out Management environment of the Xserve (Early 2008).
It addresses issues that cause frequent power supply and fan notifications to be sent. This update is strongly recommended for all Xserve (Early 2008) systems.
The Xserve Lights-Out Management Firmware Update 1.2 application has been installed into the /Applications/Server folder of the selected volume. According to Apple, users must run the firmware update application in order to perform the update to the Xserve. The update can be run either as an application in the Finder of the target Xserve, or remotely from the command line, the Mac maker reveals.
At just 719KB in size, the Xserve LOM Firmware Update 1.2 requires Mac OS X 10.5.6 and supports several languages, including Deutsch, English, Français, etc. Use the link available at the bottom of this article to download the Xserve LOM Firmware Update 1.2, which also includes the Xserve Lights-Out Management Firmware Update 1.2 installer package.

Recently, Apple has also released Server Admin Tools 10.5.6 v1.1, a package that contains remote administration tools, documentation, and utilities you can install on a computer other than your server. The update is required on Early 2009 Xserves.
