MobileMe Control Panel, the
Apple-developed software application required to manage iDisk settings, as well as syncing of contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Windows PC, has been promoted to version 1.6. The new software brings improvements to contact sync with Microsoft Outlook and is required for Windows computers running the newly released
iTunes 9.2, Apple says.
“MobileMe Control Panel is required to manage iDisk settings and for syncing of contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Windows PC,” Apple explains on the Downloads area of its website. “This update includes improvements to contact sync with Microsoft Outlook. It is required for Windows computers running iTunes 9.2,” it adds, disclosing the changes delivered with this release.
The Mac maker continues to provide a description of its cloud-based service saying that, “MobileMe is the online service from Apple that automatically keeps your email, contacts, calendar, bookmarks, and more in sync across multiple computers, your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and a suite of web apps on www.me.com.”
System requirements for MobileMe Control Panel version 1.6 include Windows Vista SP1 or later, Windows XP Home or Professional SP2, Windows 7, Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007 for calendar sync, a MobileMe Account, and iTunes 9.2 or later, according to Apple. iTunes 9.2 delivers support for iPhone 4 syncing, a function for organizing books and apps on a device’s home screen, faster back-up process and album artwork improvements. There’s also a security side to iTunes 9.2 that addresses
three vulnerabilities that have been recently found in the software.
Apple has also released Safari 5 recently, an update to its WebKit-based browser for Mac and Windows. Safari 5 brings a new Reader function that allows users to read through a news article without distractions (images, ads, etc).
