Apple has released a new firmware update for owners of a 27-inch LED Cinema Display addressing audio issues. The update is available as a standalone download through Apple Support and Softpedia, as well as through the Mac OS X built-in Software Update mechanism.

On the Support area of its web site, the Cupertino, California based electronics giant reveals that the LED Cinema Display Firmware Update 1.0 addresses intermittent audio issues experienced by only a handful of users who’ve employed the big-screen Apple-branded monitor.

About LED Cinema Display Firmware Update 1.0

This Firmware Update addresses intermittent audio issues some users have experienced while using the 27-inch LED Cinema Display.

The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder and will be launched automatically. Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process.

The Mac maker directs customers to a support article for additional details on the issue and its resolution.

“You may notice that sound from an LED Cinema Display (27-inch) connected to a Mac intermittently becomes inaudible,” Apple explains to those who believe are experiencing said symptoms.

“In some circumstances, you may need to unplug the display and reconnect it or restart the Mac before the sound becomes audible again.”

Users must make sure the USB connector on their LED Cinema Display (27-inch) is physically connected to the Mac, as a first step towards addressing the problem through software update.

“Run Software Update by opening the Apple () menu and choosing Software Update,” the next step goes.

“The updater application will download to the Utilities folder and should run automatically,” Apple explains. “You can also manually download the LED Cinema Display Firmware Update 1.0, then double-click the updater application to begin the installation,” the company adds.

The document in question also offers full installation instructions, and information on how to verify that the update was successfully applied.
