Apple has extended Mac OS X compatibility with RAW image format output by several popular cameras by releasing Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.2, a 5.28 MB download from the company’s Support area. Also available as a free download via the Software Update mechanism, the update extends RAW image format compatibility for Aperture 3 and iPhoto 09, but it also addresses a number of issues with three DSLRs, one Canon, and two Pentax Ks.

Over at the Support Downloads area of it website, Apple describes Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.2 as follows.

“Many digital cameras offer options to save pictures in digital camera RAW format,” Apple explains. “Digital camera RAW formats retain more image information than JPEGs and can produce better results when used with imaging applications such as Aperture and iPhoto. Mac OS X Snow Leopard provides system-level support for digital camera RAW formats from the following cameras,” the document reveals, and continues with a lengthy list of supported cameras.
