Apple has posted a Support document online to address common questions regarding some upcoming changes to Apple Service Training and Certification programs.

In the document, Apple confirms that the AppleCare division will be undergoing some changes to its Service Training and Certification program.

Going into effect June 23, 2013, “This update is based on feedback from the field and will ensure a simpler and easier way to create and maintain service technician credentials,” says Apple.

Here’s the breakdown (and you can visit the Support document here for the full scoop):

- No more ACMT re-certifications; - New exam resources; - No more testing centers (all exams will be available online); - No more proctored exams (for initial ACMT certification).

Apple explains that this change is necessary because its AppleCare unit wants “technicians to be qualified before servicing new products that require special handling.”

Special training and exams will be created for all new products, “since new products often require new procedures and tools,” Apple adds.

In order to obtain service parts, passing exams will be mandatory, but if you are already ACMT-certified, you don’t have to do anything right now.
