Overview helps customers identify genuine Apple USB power adapters

We’re yet to hear any kind of confirmation regarding the death of the young stewardess we reported about last week, but it’s assumed her iPhone charger electrocuted her.

The charger was said to be a knockoff – one that hadn’t been designed or sold by Apple. It’s not clear if that’s true or not, but it’s fairly likely that this was indeed the case.

In light of these events, Apple has published a new web page on power adapters. It basically says to use Apple stuff instead of third-party solutions. Which isn’t exactly fair to accessory makers, especially those with MFi (Made for iPhone/iPod) certification.

“This overview will help you identify genuine Apple USB power adapter,” says Apple. “When you need to charge the iPhone or iPad, we recommend that you use the random standard USB power adapter and USB cable.”

In case yours broke, you can buy another one separately from Apple or authorized resellers, but in no case should you buy the cheapest thing that comes your way. The circumstances in which Ma Aliun died are probably very rare, but you never know.
