According to Japan’s Macotakara, a source with a fairly good track record on Apple rumors, an up and coming iPhone made of plastic is being “postponed” until 2014.

That’s not to say Apple won’t release another iPhone this year. What Macotakara is implying (and it’s still a rumor, mind you) is that this 4.5-inch device won’t come to fruition on schedule, but it’s still on the table.

The source says Apple has already fixed the asking price at around $330 (€250) and that the phone’s enclosure will be made of polycarbonate (plastic). The Cupertino giant currently houses the iPhone’s inner workings in metal.

The Japanese blog could be referring to Apple’s rumored “low-cost iPhone,” considering the price mentioned in the report. The news most likely has nothing to do with the potential iPhone 5S launching later this year, or the iPhone 6 likely planned for next year.
