“After selling for over a week and reaching #60 on the Mac games chart, the counterfeit Lugaru is no longer on the Mac App Store,” Wolfire Games has announced.

Lugaru (pronounced Loo-GAH-roo) is a third-person action game whose main character, Turner, is an anthropomorphic rebel bunny rabbit, highly skilled in man-to-man combat.

In his quest to find those responsible for slaughtering his village, Turner uncovers a far-reaching conspiracy involving the corrupt leaders of the rabbit republic and the starving wolves from a nearby den.

The protagonist takes it upon himself to fight against their plot and save his fellow rabbits from slavery, according to the game’s storyline.

The development studio behind the original fighting game Lugaru HD suggests Apple hasn’t answered their requests to know who took the fake game down.

As far as we know, only two parties can pull a game from the Apple App Store - the developer, and Apple.

“We're not sure who took it down, or what will happen to the customers who were tricked into buying the fake copy, or the money they paid for it,” Wolfire notes. “We still haven't heard anything from Apple.”

“We don't think that the customers should be punished for buying the fake version -- they probably just assumed that all the games in the App Store are legitimate,” the company adds, likely intending a pun. “We would have assumed the same thing until last week!”, Wolfire says.

Those who were tricked into downloading the fake Lugaru game are invited to forward their receipt to [email protected] “and we will give you an authentic version of Lugaru HD, as well as a bonus Steam key for your trouble,” the developer promises.
