Android is the most popular smartphone OS to go around in The States, but it’s still Apple that commands the overall smartphone market from a hardware standpoint, according to a Nielsen report.

In a recent research note looking at the trends surrounding smartphone use in America, global leader in measurement and information, Nielsen reveals that the smartphone market continues to expand, with Google’s Android remaining the most popular smartphone operating system in the United States - it owns 43 percent of the market, according to the research firm.

Rival Apple, on the other hand, is the top smartphone manufacturer, “with 28 percent of smartphone consumers sporting an Apple iPhone,” says their report.

Nielsen’s third quarter survey of mobile users reveals that the vast majority of those under the age of 44 in America now have smartphones.
