According to Cingular sales agent

At&t has received around a million requests for the iPhone since it was announced, back in January, according to Randall Stephenson, the company's Chief Operating Officer. This is not really surprising, nor is the fact that most people can hardly wait to see it officially released and know it'll finally hit the shops.

Now, considering the huge number of customers interested in the iPhone, as its release date gets closer, it's to be expected that speculations regarding the official date will show up. First came AppleInsider's report according to which Apple had requested iPhone components from suppliers until April which was proof that the company was in fact preparing for the launch.

Now, according to CNET, At&t/Cingular has sort of confirmed that June 11 will be release date for Apple's highly anticipated product, the iPhone. The source would be a random At&t sales agent that CNET managed to reach over the phone. After calling the mobile operator's customer service, the call was reportedly transferred to sales where the release date was revealed.

Now also keep in mind that Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference starts on the same date. Connecting all the dots would lead one to think that a June 11 release is in fact possible and very probable. The only thing that's missing so far is an official FCC approval, but then again, there's still time for that.

Maybe all of this is true, or maybe this info should have been posted in a couple more days, since it's April Fool's day. But the iPhone should get launched sometime in June anyway, a couple of days before or after the 11th won't really make a difference.
