When Apple first announced games for the iPod, there was much excitement. Unfortunately that's pretty much where things ended since Apple has not really done much with the games and has not opened the door to let other game developers jump in. However, despite not doing much with them, Apple has not totally forgotten games on the iPod and has just released "iQuiz."

The iTunes Store describes iQuiz as a "fast-paced entertainment trivia game designed in a portable format." The new game puts your pop culture knowledge to the test with questions about music, movies and TV shows. It also features a "Music Quiz 2" game mode that will test just how well you know the songs, albums and artists on your iPod. You can keep the challenges coming by creating your own custom trivia packs to share, or add trivia packs created by other players.

Features: ■ Choose from four built-in games ■ Create and share new trivia packs with other players ■ Rediscover all of the songs and albums you've tucked away on your iPod ■ Keep track of your personal statistics as well as those of other players ■ Fast-paced but brain-based, providing endless mental challenge and stimulation ■ Tutorial mode makes it easy as you learn how to play

iQuiz costs $0.99 and has so far received very positive reviews on the iTunes Store. Like all iPod games, it is compatible only with the fifth-generation iPod with iPod Software 1.2 or later and iTunes version 7.1 or later is required.

While Apple has not done much with iPod games, one possible reason might be that new iPods will be like iPhones only without the phone part. This means they will be running a version of OS X and will be capable of much more than the current iPods. If that is the case, we can expect Apple to start offering some really interesting games, which actually leverage the possibilities of the multi point touch screen.
