Apple has released a new version of iMovie this week, patching an issue that could prevent the application from launching on systems with third-party QuickTime components installed.

Acting like codecs on Windows machines, QuickTime components sometimes conflict with other media playing applications on OS X. This time around, it was actually Apple’s own iMovie that had problems with these add-ons.

The changelog for iMovie 9.0.8 reveals that the update “addresses an issue related to third-party QuickTime components that could prevent iMovie from opening.”

Weighing in at a whopping 1.1 GB, iMovie 9.0.8 requires OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later. The update installer is supported in languages that you probably never knew existed, and it’s free to all existing iMovie users. Apparently, Apple’s iMovie has been a hit in every corner of the world.
