Apple is addressing an iBooks bug on iOS platforms via a small software update meant to alleviate some issues involving VoiceOver, the built-in accessibility feature in Apple’s mobile operating system.

iBooks 3.1.2 has been released with the purpose of fixing “an issue where the app may quit unexpectedly while using VoiceOver,” according to Apple.

Apparently, the app would crash in certain circumstances for some users with old-generation devices (but not only).

iBooks continues to work well with iOS 5, and presumably with the latest version of the operating system (iOS 7), though Apple hasn’t confirmed this yet.

The e-book application is set to arrive on the Mac with the release of OS X Mavericks this fall. Currently, iBooks is only available to owners of iDevices.
