Apple Releases Universal MobileMe Gallery App

The iOS MobileMe Gallery application has added full iPad support, making the software universally-compatible with all iDevices. In addition, the app now supports fast app switching for iOS 4 devices, the ability to view friends’ galleries without the need for a MobileMe subscription (iPhone and iPad only), and optimizations for Retina displays.

“Take your MobileMe gallery everywhere with a beautiful viewing experience on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Just enter your MobileMe member name and password to see all of your published albums and movies,” Apple describes the MobileMe Gallery app.

“Easily browse your most recent photos or select a specific album with a tap. Flick back and forth through photos, pinch to zoom, or rotate to view in landscape view. MobileMe Gallery app automatically stores photos you’ve viewed, so you can view them again even if you don’t have a network connection,” the description adds.

In order to view a friend’s gallery, users simply choose their name from their list of contacts or enter their MobileMe member name. Instant access to their publicly shared photos is then available, while those who don’t have a MobileMe subscription can still view friends’ galleries.

The MobileMe Gallery app offers the following key benefits, Apple says:

— View your entire gallery including password protected and hidden albums
— Flick through photos and pinch to zoom in for more detail
— Rotate to see photos in landscape
— View your friends’ gallery photos and movies
— Access previously viewed photos when offline
— Easily share a link to an album

As noted above, version 1.2 brings a number of enhancements which Apple lists as follows:

MobileMe Gallery supports multiple languages, including English, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

The software is now compatible with all iOS portables (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) and requires iPhone OS 3.1.3 or later.
