Apple has released version 3.6.1 of its Remote Desktop application for both Client and Admin users. The 3.6.1 update is recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop users, as it improves overall reliability and performance, the company says.

According to the computer company at 1 Infinite Loop, “this update improves the overall stability and reliability of the Remote Desktop client,” and includes one specific change.

It appears there was an issue with Apple’s Remote Desktop utility that prevented the menu extra from loading in OS X Lion. In version 3.6.1, this problem is fixed, says Apple.

Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) customers already have the Apple Remote Desktop Client 3.6.1 update included in the OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 update. If you’re already up to speed on the OS front, there’s no need for action.

For Lion users (OS X 10.7), the Apple Remote Desktop Client 3.6.1 update is available as an automatic update, but also as a manual download from Apple Support Downloads. Click here for that, or see the links below to download the new version straight from Softpedia.

Users can update more Lion computers remotely using Upgrade Client Software from Apple Remote Desktop Admin 3.6.1.

“Apple Remote Desktop Client enables a networked OS X computer to be remotely managed by the powerful desktop management application, Apple Remote Desktop,” Apple states.

“With Apple Remote Desktop you can automatically distribute software, remotely configure and control systems, offer real-time online help to end users, create detailed software and hardware reports, and automate your IT workflows. All without leaving your desk,” according to the Mac makers.

The web pages reserved to Remote Desktop Support include details on Apple Remote Desktop, system requirements, and even known issues. Avid users should give them a look.
