Delivering reliability improvements during boot and power fail recovery, RAID Card (Early 2009) Firmware Update 1.1 was made available as a free download yesterday, via users' Mac OS X built-in software updater, or Apple’s Support / Downloads section.

On the designated segment of its website, Apple describes the RAID Card (Early 2009) Firmware Update 1.1, noting that the update provides several fixes, including reliability improvements during boot and power fail recovery, improved handling of hard drives with bad blocks, improved RAID 1 read performance and hard-drive compatibility with non-Apple drives, as well as improved support for systems with a 48GB or larger memory and better battery handling and reporting.

Recommend for all Mac Pro (Early 2009) and Xserve (Early 2009) systems with the Apple RAID card, the RAID Card (Early 2009) Firmware Update 1.1 weighs in at 25.90MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later. “The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder and will launch automatically. Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process,” Apple adds on the Support section of its website.

On a more detailed note, the company behind the Mac operating system reveals in an additional Support document that, “Apple RAID Card (Early 2009) Firmware Update 1.1 is recommended for all Mac Pro (Early 2009) and Xserve (Early 2009) systems with the Apple RAID Card (Early 2009). This update requires Mac OS X v10.5.8 or Mac OS X Server v10.5.8 or later. You will need to restart your computer as part of the update process.”

“Apple RAID Card (Early 2009) Firmware Update 1.1 updates RAID card firmware version E-1.2.2.4, E-1.2.2.6 and E-1.2.7.0 to E-1.3.2.0. If your RAID card firmware version begins with M, you have a different version of the Apple RAID Card, and you do not need this update,” Apple explains.
