Apple has released new updates to some of its supported professional video and audio suites. Pro Applications Update 2008-04 is a revision to Final Cut Studio 2.0, which includes Final Cut Pro 6.0.5, Compressor 3.0.5, Color 1.0.3 and Shake 4.1.1. The software addresses general performance issues, and improves overall stability.

“Apple Pro Application Support improves reliability for Apple's professional applications and is recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, Logic Studio and Shake,” says Apple. “Apple Pro Application Support will improve the way applications run and feel on your Mac OS.”

Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 addresses specific issues such as improved rendering of still images and footage in high-resolution formats. The same update adds the ability to capture the additional metadata for footage recorded with the Panasonic AG-HMC150 professional AVCHD camcorder, as well as the extended metadata that is available with P2 cards. Lastly, Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 improves reliability when importing files from the Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder.

Compressor 3.0.5 fixes an issue in Mac OS X Leopard that caused existing QuickClusters to be removed when the Back to My Mac feature was enabled, while Shake 4.1.1 addresses general performance problems, and improves overall stability. The rest of the updates approach specific customer issues and general performance problems, improving overall stability and compatibility. Particularly, Color 1.03 also adds support for XDCAM 422 media and for the RED plug-ins for Final Cut Studio.

Minimum system requirements for the above-mentioned app suites include a Mac with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor, 1GB of RAM, an AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors), a display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher, OS X 0.4.11 / 10.5.5 or later, QuickTime 7.5.5 or later and a DVD drive for installation.
