Unlike the client software, OS X Server remains a paid product

In tandem with the OS X Server Client release this week Apple also rolled out OS X Server 3.0, a new version of the company’s Server OS updated specifically to run on OS X Mavericks.

Rather than distributing a whole new OS to enterprise users, Apple prefers to dish out OS X Server as an app that runs on top of the Client Mac OS. In the case of OS X Server 3.0, Mavericks is required.

One cool feature in this new version is Caching Server, which speeds up the download of software distributed by Apple.

Xcode Server is also new to the table. “Use Xcode 5 to create continuous integration bots that build, analyze, and test on any Mac running OS X Server,” the company says.

Xcode Server is basically an enterprise-centric version of Apple’s digital toolset for creating Mac and iOS apps. OS X Server sells for $19.99/€17.99.
