The third new update posted on Apple’s web site yesterday, Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.1, is aimed at users running Windows under BootCamp – the utility included with Leopard that assists users in installing Microsoft Windows on a Mac.

As usual, the Support section of its web site is where Apple describes the contents of the Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.1 for Windows. According to the Mac maker, “this update improves the performance of the Apple Multi-Touch trackpad when running Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista on a Mac computer using Boot Camp.”

Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.1 for Windows, posted August 11, 2009, is nearly 4MB in size and is to be applied on Windows XP or Windows Vista. Supported languages include Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

The company behind the Mac operating system also posts instructions for downloading and installing the Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.1. Using Windows XP or Vista, users must download the update and confirm that AppleBcUpdate.exe has appeared on their desktop. They must then double-click on AppleBcUpdate.exe and follow the onscreen instructions to install the update. If a computer is not eligible for this update, a message saying "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed" will appear as users attempt to proceed with the installation.

If the update is needed, users must follow the instructions in the Device Driver Installation wizard. When the update has finished installing, an installation wizard screen with the message "The drivers were successfully installed on this computer" will appear, according to Apple.

Readers should note that this update is not automatically offered to computers that are running 64-bit editions of Microsoft Vista. Therefore, those running a 64-bit edition of Microsoft’s OS will need to download and apply another version of the update, located elsewhere. Unfortunately, Apple has failed to provide a download link on its web site.
