Apple has released a new EFI firmware update for MacBook Air owners addressing an issue that caused a black screen to appear when installing Windows using Boot Camp Assistant.

Customers experiencing issues installing Windows on a MacBook Air computer are being offered a new firmware update on behalf of Apple, containing a fix that should alleviate the reported problems.

MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.7 targets MacBook Air (mid 2013) models and “addresses an issue which may cause a black screen to appear when installing Windows 7 or Windows 8 using Boot Camp Assistant if both an external optical drive and USB thumb drive are connected to the system,” according to the Cupertino giant.

The update further ensures that your Mac boots into OS X after installing Windows 8.
