Apple this week issued no less than three EFI firmware updates for owners of a Macintosh computer, the latest of which is targeted at Mac minis.Thanks to the new update, Lion Internet Recovery will kick in on Mac mini systems as well, bringing the low-end desktop systems up to feature parity with the rest of the Macintosh family of computers.
According to the Cupertino, California-based Apple Inc., “Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.3 comes with a patch that enhances the stability of Lion Recovery from an Internet connection.
The package also resolves issues with Apple Thunderbolt Display compatibility and Thunderbolt Target Disk Mode performance on the newest Mac mini models shipped this year.
Built right into Mac OS X, Lion Recovery allows users to repair disks or reinstall the OS completely without physical media.
“The Mac mini EFI Update will update the EFI firmware on your Mac mini computer,” Apple continues.
As usual, customers are being told to expect their computer’s display to turn gray as soon as it restarts. A status bar will indicate the progress of the update which, according to Apple, will take several minutes to complete.
Since this is a firmware update installation, users are advised not to disturb the process, or to attempt to turn off the computer.
“Do not disturb or shut off the power on your Mac mini during this update,” Apple says.
Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.3 comes in at 4.26 MB and applies solely to Mac mini mid-2011 models that are running OS X Lion 10.7 or later.
Supported languages include Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Dansk, Norsk Bokmål, Polski, Português, Português Brasileiro, Pусский, Suomi, Svensk, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Albanian, Arabic, British English, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonia, Malay Malaysia, Montenegro, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
