In tandem with the iTunes 9.0.1 software update, Apple has issued updates for users of its digital audio workstation and MIDI sequencer software application for the Mac OS X, Logic Studio. Both the full and limited-functionality versions of the software are being updated with numerous fixes and enhancements that should deliver an overall better user experience, Apple says.

Speaking about both Logic Pro and Logic Express, the Mac maker reveals that update 9.0.1 “improves overall stability and provides numerous fixes and enhancements.” According to Apple, issues addressed include: flex Markers can align & snap to MIDI notes; performing a punch-in recording with Replace Mode now behaves correctly; the I/O plug-in adds an option for latency compensation.

Adding that the update is recommended for all users of Logic Pro / Express 9, Apple then takes visitors of its website to a separate section, where the release notes for Logic Pro / Express 9.0.1 are posted. Apple notes that the list contains most issues addressed in the 9.0.1 update, but that it is not limited to just these fixes. A few highlights (on our behalf) are available below.

- Replace mode now functions as expected when Punch Recording. - Trimming a region now behaves correctly for regions whose first transient is quantized. - Using “Paste at Original Position” in the Arrange window now works as expected. - Clicking solo on a channel strip no longer selects the channel strip. - Logic no longer quits unexpectedly in recording situations where both a MIDI and audio track are record enabled and the MIDI track is not selected.

But it’s not just fixes that make up the 9.0.1 update for Logic Pro and Logic Express, but also a few enhancements. For example, Apple claims it is now possible to measure and provide latency compensation for an external signal chain that is routed via the I/O plug-in. Also, users can now snap align Flex Markers to MIDI notes within other tracks in the Arrange window. The Automap feature for Novation MIDI controllers is also improved – “now functions when using the Logic Studio plug-ins,” the release notes say. Lastly, Apogee's UV-22 dithering algorithm is now an option when bouncing audio files.

Requiring Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, the 9.0.1 update for Logic Pro and Logic Express can be obtained via the two links below.
