Apple has released Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.6, an update targeting users of Aperture 3 and iPhoto ‘11. As usual, Apple has added RAW image compatibility with a number of digital cameras from the likes of Canon, Panasonic, and Nikon.

To learn which digital camera RAW files are supported by Snow Leopard, Apple refers customers to a support document which details “supported digital camera RAW formats” for Mac OS X 10.6.

There, Apple explains that many digital cameras offer options to save pictures in digital camera RAW format.

“Digital camera RAW formats retain more image information than JPEGs and can produce better results when used with imaging applications such as Aperture and iPhoto,” the company says.

“Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard provides system-level support for digital camera RAW formats from the following cameras,” Apple adds, proceeding to list ever supported camera type in every RAW Compatibility Update released to date.

According to the Cupertino, California-based giant, Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.6 adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:

- Canon EOS Rebel T3 / 1100D / Kiss X50 - Canon EOS Rebel T3i / 600D / Kiss X5 - Olympus E-5 - Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 - Pentax K-r - Pentax K-5

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.6 also addresses processing issues for a number of cameras. These are: Nikon D7000; Nikon COOLPIX P7000; Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1; Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2.

Those interested in learning more about supported RAW formats are encouraged to see Apple Support document HT3825.

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.6 is to be installed on systems running either Mac OS X 10.5.8 (the latest version of Apple’s Leopard operating system), or Mac OS X 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard) or later

Supported Languages include Deutsch, English, Français, Español, Italiano, and Nederlands.
