Apple has updated its Downloads section with a pair of driver updates aimed at users of the latest version of Mac OS X, Snow Leopard. The two packages are freely available for download and contain the latest printing and scanning software for Mac OS X 10.6.

With the release of Snow Leopard last month, Apple has issued numerous drivers for various printers and scanners that are compatible with Mac OS X. Since August 28, Apple has continuously updated the support for these devices with ever newer drivers. The latest two are described as follows.

About Brother Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6 This download includes the latest Brother printing and scanning software for Snow Leopard. Requires Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later.

About Canon Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6 This download includes the latest Canon printing and scanning software for Snow Leopard. Requires Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later.

An additional document offering information on supported printer models under Mac OS X Snow Leopard is also available on Apple’s Support section. Tech note HT3669 reveals that, “Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard includes software for many printer and scanner models. This software can be installed from the Snow Leopard Install DVD, and installed or updated by using Software Update (some models have software available through Software Update only).” The company will be continually updating the document as newer printer drivers are released. Currently, the piece in question lists software provided for printers and scanners as of 11 Sept. 2009.

Readers must use their browser’s page find / search feature (typing in specific names and / or numbers) to view the complete list of printers and scanners that are supplied with Snow Leopard Install DVD and by Software Update.
