While Apple may be having problems with getting enough developers for both the iPhone software and Leopard, they have not forgotten about all their other software.
The Cupertino Company has just released a rather chunky update for its post-production tool for photographers.

The Aperture 1.5.3 Update addresses issues related to overall reliability and performance in a number of areas, including:
- Generation of thumbnails for adjusted images
- Entering and exiting Full Screen mode
- Working with large sets of keywords in the Keywords HUD
- Restoring from a vault

Among the specific issues that have been addressed:
- Previews now update properly when images are sent to an external editor.
- Leaf Aptus 22 and Aptus 75 images are now imported with the correct orientation.
- When folders are imported as projects, the folder structure is now correctly preserved when identically named subfolders are included in the hierarchy.
- Reconnecting referenced images that have been externally edited now works more reliably.
- Setting the ColorSync profile in the Aperture Print dialog now correctly suppresses color management settings in the Mac OS X Print dialog.

So far, Aperture and Adobe competitor Lightroom are on rather equal footing, both being considered solid applications. As competition heats up and both products will be racing to differentiate themselves through features as well as individual workflow, Aperture is likely to be seeing more and more of these updates. Even users that clearly prefer one over the other agree that both are good products, and Apple has managed to turn Aperture around despite initial problems, but it will most likely need to see more work if it is to get the upper hand on Lightroom. Of course, some of those Top Secret features in Leopard could help give Aperture a head jump.
