A number of developers leveraging the Dropbox SDK in their applications are seeing their applications rejected by the Cupertino, California tech giant maintaining the iOS App Store.

A frustrated developer whose app got rejected by Apple explains on the Dropbox forums that Apple took issue with his app because of the ability to send users over at Dropbox.com to create a paid account.

Apple does not condone external purchases from its applications. The Mac maker reportedly sent an email to the developer, stating:

“We found that your app provides access to external mechanisms for purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

“Specifically, your app enables to user to create accounts with Dropbox and Google.”

AppleInsider asked Dropbox officials to offer a statement on the matter. The high-ups maintaining the popular cloud-storage service told the site, "Apple is rejecting apps that use the Dropbox SDK because we allow users to create accounts.”

After confirming the problem, Dropbox said it was working with Cupertino to address the matter:

“We're working with Apple to come up with a solution that still provides an elegant user experience," the statement reads.

Over at the Dropbox forums, an admin offers a temporary solution for developers impacted by the problem.

“Here is a version of the iOS SDK that removes both the "Desktop Version" link and the create account link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/36domfjo6pz1ulf/dropbox-ios-sdk-1.2.2-b2.tar.gz,” reads the post.

The Dropbox employee promises to have a "better solution" next week.

“We're looking for a better long term solution, but in the mean time [sic] this should allow your app to be approved,” he wrote.
