Apple Ranks 7th Among the Most Admired Companies

- America's Most Admired Companies - Fortune Top

By: Ilinca Strobel, Editor, Software Reviews

Apple was granted yet another acknowledgement of its efforts to remain one of the most trusted and appreciated brands, in and beyond US borders.
The company was listed on Fortune's top 10 Most Admired Companies in America. The Cupertino-based company ranks 7th in Fortune's top 20. On a global scale, Apple rose to be fifth in the top. Rival Microsoft ranked 8th in the worldwide top of the most admired companies.

Hay Group has conducted the research for the World's Most Admired Companies list since 1997. To create the top 20 – an overall list of Most Admired Companies – Hay Group questioned the 3,322 executives, directors, and securities analysts who had responded to the industry surveys to select the ten companies they admired most. They chose from a list of companies that ranked in the top 25% in last year's survey, plus those that finished in the top 20% of their industry.

Apple is the second most appreciated name in the Computers industry, behind IBM. It tops brands like HP, Canon, Xerox. This is how Apple was graded for each of the eight criteria analyzed by Fortune: Innovation - 1, People management - 1, Use of corporate assets - 2, Social responsibility - 6, Quality of management - 2, Financial soundness - 2, Long-term investment - 2, Quality of products/services - 1. As for the grades, less is better.

As you can see, Apple lost most in Social responsibility, unsurprisingly. Still, they've received the best grade for innovation, people management and quality of products and services delivered. Apple's overall score was 7.44, compared to IBM's 7.46 (top brand in computers) and Microsoft's 6.73.

Apple has always been a company that focuses on product and service quality and customer satisfaction and this ranking confirms this once more. Well done!
