Apple QuickTime, a multimedia player developed by Apple, is now causing headaches for all computers because it contains a vulnerability that can permit an attacker connect to the system and take over the control. In the past, QuickTime was also the subject of numerous advisories because the companies discovered multiple flaws able to harm your computer. The security company Secunia rated the flaw as highly critical and sustained the vulnerability exists on a Mac system with Safari or Firefox but other browsers and platforms might be also affected. As you know, Apple QuickTime is compatible with Mac and Windows platforms.

"A vulnerability has been reported in Apple QuickTime, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to an unspecified error within the Java handling in QuickTime. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary code when a user visits a malicious web site using a Java-enabled browser e.g. Safari or Firefox," it is mentioned in the advisory.

The only solution is to avoid browsing untrusted websites or to disable Java support in the browser as long as no patch was officially released.

At this time, Apple's QuickTime is quite a popular application because it is installed on numerous Windows computers from all over the world as well as on all the Mac systems designed by the parent company. QuickTime is installed on every Mac OSX system and works with iTunes, an audio player that allows users to listen to music and buy albums straight from the Internet. Recently, Apple revealed a new security update for all the Mac OSX systems but none of the patches included in the pack addressed a QuickTime flaw. All you need to do is to use the solution provided by Secunia or wait for a patch develop by the company.
