After informing the retail segment that copies of Logic Pro and MainStage will become Mac App Store exclusives, Apple rolled out updated versions of the music creation apps, as well as a new version of Aperture, the company’s professional photography software.

Rumor reports said yesterday that Apple had issued a notice to resellers confirming the discontinuation of boxed copies of Logic Studio and Express. The Mac maker had also noted that Logic Pro 9 and MainStage 2 components would be moving to the Mac App Store.

Logic Pro 9.1.6 is now up for grabs with numerous changes and enhancements, including compatibility fixes, performance and stability tweaks, improvements in audio, plug-ins and instruments, as well as control surfaces and other (general) features.

MainStage 2 is on the Mac App Store as well, but it appears Apple has yet to upload the newest version - 2.2.

On its Support site, Apple acknowledges that “MainStage 2.2 is a feature upgrade for MainStage 1.0 and 2.0 users available for purchase on the Mac App Store. It includes several new features and fixes.”

The new app takes full advantage of Macs with four or more processor cores, features a simplified setup, enhanced MIDI control, new preferences, auto-assignment support and a bunch of fixes for some known issues.

Finally, Aperture 3.2.2 is also new. It’s not a major new version, but it might count for those who had trouble with the following documented bug:

“If your Photo Stream exceeds 1,000 images, older images auto-imported from Photo Stream may no longer appear in Aperture 3.2.1. This may occur even if the preference to auto-import images from the Photo Stream is activated,” reads a tech note detailing the purpose of Aperture 3.2.2.

“This update resolves an issue that could prevent auto-imported Photo Stream images from being displayed in the library after your Photo Stream hits 1,000 images,” says Apple.
