An announcement on Apple’s official website encourages potential customers to choose (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition iPod models and iTunes Gift Cards, so that the company can give a portion of the purchase price to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. The (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano is the same video-capable, fifth-generation device introduced earlier this year, and can be acquired in both 8GB and 16GB form.

“You make choices every day, from the clothes you wear to the music you play. Now making a choice means making a difference. That’s because proceeds from every iPod nano or iTunes Gift Card (PRODUCT) RED sold go directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa,” a message on Apple’s iPod section reads.

“The numbers don’t lie: More than 4,100 people die every day from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, and almost 2,000 children are infected with HIV each day,” the Mac maker adds. “(PRODUCT) RED works with companies, like Apple, to create (PRODUCT) RED branded products and direct up to 50 percent of gross profits from the sale of those products to the Global Fund to help fund AIDS programs in Africa. Since its introduction, (PRODUCT) RED has generated more than $130 million for the Global Fund. And now you can make an impact by purchasing (PRODUCT) RED,” the message ends.

Those interested in learning more about the Global Fund and RED are encouraged to visit www.JOINRED.com. If you’ve already made up your mind on a new nano, head over to Apple’s online store here and place your order. Additionally, buyers of a (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano can personalize the device with an engraving. Apple offers this as a bonus, and you can submit your message-to-be-engraved as you are ordering the device on Apple’s website. The company only asks that you make sure everything is spelled correctly, as your engraved order can't be returned.
