Unlike the last time Apple kicked its White MacBook up a notch, the Mac maker now encourages visitors of its online store to have a closer look at its latest hardware upgrades to the White Macbook. The system is now (more than ever) capable of running graphics-intensive applications, while offering more storage (160GB hard drive) for the same $999 standard configuration.

Earlier this year, Apple quietly enhanced the capabilities of its consumer notebook, including NVIDIA's new 9400M, in an attempt to unify its entire notebook line from the graphics point of view. However, this was not all the company changed with the laptop.

Besides the inclusion of Bluetooth 2.1, the processor was updated from 800MHz frontside bus to the 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo model with a 1066MHz frontside bus. Previously, White MacBook models shipped with 1GB of memory. Following the discrete upgrade, the same $999 could nab the customer 2 gigs of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory and, adding the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (standard graphics on the 13-inch unibody MacBook), Apple's most popular Mac had suddenly become quite attractive.

On top of these enhancements, Apple has now added faster RAM – 2GB DDR2, now runs at 800MHz –, increased storage capacity to 160GB HDD, and upgraded the processor to a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo. As such, the MacBook (Model MC240) comes in the following standard configuration for the same $999 price:

· 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed; · 1066MHz frontside bus; · 2GB (two 1GB SO-DIMMs) of 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB; · 160GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive; optional 250GB, 320GB, or 500GB 5400-rpm drive4; · 8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW); · NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory.
