The company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California is using the popular microblogging service Twitter to promote iMDb Movies & TV, an iPhone and iPad application that “contains a wealth of information about celebrities, plots, crews, and more.”

As usual, the tweet comes from @AppStore, an Apple-created profile on Twitter with the purpose of promoting the newest and most noteworthy iOS applications to enter the digital download venue.

A shortened link takes customers to the iTunes Preview page dedicated to IMDb Movies & TV, where the developers explain that their free app lets you “Find showtimes, watch trailers, browse photos, track your must-see list and rate your favorite movies and TV shows!”

According to the publishers, “IMDb is the world’s largest collection of movie, TV and celebrity info.”

The online database provides tons of information related to movies, television shows, actors, production crew personnel, and even video games and fictional characters featured in visual entertainment media.

It has over 100 million unique users each month and a rapidly growing mobile presence, making it one of the most popular online entertainment destinations.

Launched October 17, 1990, IMDb was acquired by Amazon.com in 1998.

“We aim to list every detail about every movie and TV show ever made, including who was in it, who made it, the plot, user ratings, trailers, photos, reviews, quotes, goofs, trivia and much more,” say the people at the Internet Movie Database.

The iOS app indexes over 1.5 million movie and TV titles, and over 3.2 million celebrities, actors, actresses, directors and crew members.

It allows you to look up movie showtimes at theaters near you, TV listings for your timezone, recaps of TV shows from last night, upcoming movies, the latest entertainment news from hundreds of media outlets, the latest DVD releases and, of course, all the popular movies ever made.

You can also use it to explore popular charts, view movie trailers and reviews and, with IMDb Pro, you can find representation listings for over 80,000 industry names, as well as find company and employee contact details for over 30,000 companies.

Recently updated to version 2.2, the IMDb Movies & TV app features updated designs for home, movies, TV and celebrity pages, the ability to sort Watchlist by user order (A-to-Z or average rating), an option to create custom lists to save favorite movie and TV titles, and more.

IMDb Movies & TV is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 4.2 or later. Users download one universal app that works both on iPhone and on iPad.
