14 DAY TRIAL // On March 19, Apple has announced the availability of multiple security updates for Mac owners, as well as an update to the iPhoto application that incorporates several bug fixes and support for migrating to the new Photos for Mac app that will be integrated into the upcoming Mac OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite upgrade.
We reported at the beginning of the week, when the fourth Beta update for the upcoming Mac OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite operating system was released, that the final version was around the corner. Today’s iPhoto 9.6.1 update proves just that, as it includes compatibility for migrating your photo libraries to the brand-new Photos for Mac app.
Mac owners should know that Photos for Mac is a replacement for iPhoto and Aperture. It will automatically replace iPhoto when the Mac OS X 10.10.3 update is released in the coming weeks. iPhoto 9.6.1 is now available for update in the Mac App Store and also solves some issues with Facebook albums displaying only the first 25 images.
The new security updates fix iCloud Keychain and IOSurface issues
Labeled as “Security Update 2015-003 Yosemite (Early 2015 Mac)” and Security Update 2015-003 Yosemite,” the two new security updates released today by Apple for Mac owners include various important bugs fixes and security patches designed to keep your Mac OS X Yosemite operating system up to date and secure.
An iCloud Keychain issue has been repaired by the aforementioned Security Update 2015-003 patch, which is now available in the App Store for Mac OS X Yosemite. It was discovered that an attacker that had network access to the host could run random code, as multiple buffer overflows were present in the iCloud Keychain recovery code.
Additionally, it was discovered that a malicious app could run arbitrary code as root because of a type confusion issue in IOSurface’s handling of serialized objects. These two issues are now fixed by Apple and all Mac OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite users are urged to update their system as soon as the security updates arrive in the Mac App Store.
