14 DAY TRIAL // Opera Software ASA is surprising fans of its web browser with a Mac-exclusive release in the Mac App Store, that brings the application to version 11.63 and delivers a trio of changes that should otherwise target all supported platforms, including Windows and Linux.
Opera makes it clear that “This latest version of the Opera browser is primarily a stability and security release. This means that we have focused on fixing important issues to keep your browsing even faster and safer.”
The release notes show what are clearly general changes that should not only apply to Macintosh customers, but Windows and Linux users as well.
Apple has (most likely) approved the latest Opera version in the Mac App Store ahead of schedule. It's either that, or Opera Software themselves are falling behind with the remaining two platforms.
In version 11.63, Opera developers have revamped the address field to include new search suggestions.
The Norway-based software vendor has made it easier for users to find their favorite websites more quickly in the results list, and users can just press the star in the address field to add sites to their bookmarks or Speed Dial instantly.
Next up, there’s a new browser engine to be had: “Opera offers significant improvements to the browser engine, providing a faster and more stable Internet experience. Enjoy improved website compatibility, faster page loading and a higher level of overall stability when browsing,” reads the change log.
Last, but not least, Opera 11.63 comes with changes to the built-in mail client which now allows you to manage your messages automatically.
“In our latest release, we've introduced a number of improvements, including a cleaner layout, message grouping, a more intuitive view in your inbox and easier navigation,” says Opera Software.
Opera 11.63 requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later but in order to download the new version from the Mac App Store, users require Mac OS X 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard).
Update: It appears Opera 11.63 was actually a Mac-only update. Opera Software provided us with the following statement:
"We submitted Opera 11.63 exclusively for the App Store approval process. People who upgrade to this version will see their customizations restored, just like before they upgraded to Opera 11.62."
