The Support section of Apple’s web site is listing the availability of seven separate printer driver downloads for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard users.

By default, Mac OS X v10.6 includes software for multiple printer and scanner models. Customers can either install them from the Mac OS X v10.6 Install DVD, or by using Software Update.

However, only by using Software Update do customers ensure they have the latest version of their necessary printer / scanner drivers.

All printer drivers are free to download on supported machines. The seven listings from Apple’s web site are reproduced below.

Those who are unsure which printer driver updates they need can simply choose Software Update from the Apple menu and allow the mechanism to complete the process of "Checking for new software."

Users then connect their printer or add it using the Print & Fax pane of System Preferences.  If software for a printer is available through Software Update, users will see a prompt asking if they would like to download and install the new software.
