Cupertino seeks someone to drive iDevice integration testing with car stereos

After equipping Ferrari’s latest supercar with its diminutive tablet computers, Apple is pushing forward with plans to get a second foot through the door of the automotive industry. By hiring new people.

The Cupertino giant has opened up new jobs for iOS Car Services, and is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager to drive iDevice integration testing with car stereos.

“The iOS Communication Applications Group, an innovative and ambitious team who has played a large role in making the iOS a success, is looking for a proactive, highly motivated engineer with 5 + years experience, to share their expertise in application and framework development,” reads one job advert.

There are two positions to fill in iOS Car Services where Apple needs someone with excellent skills in object-oriented software design and programming.

These new recruits will be expected to have “real-world experience optimizing the size and performance of applications and frameworks,” and they’ll be “responsible for implementing new features in existing applications as well as developing complex applications from top to bottom,” the advert adds.

A third job posting, for Manager, Software QA (In-Car), asks for a Software Quality Assurance Manager to test integration with car stereos.

The role is for a hands-on manager, meaning this person won’t actually do any tinkering, but rather will be “guiding the team to test car stereo compatibility with iOS products.”

Key qualifications for this role include the following required education and experience:

- BS in computer science or equivalent. - In-depth development experience at the application and user interface level with at least one of the following: Cocoa, Java, MFC/WinFX - Strong object oriented programming and design skills. - Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. - Ability and desire to learn new skills and take on new tasks. - Familiarity with Unix. Additional success factors: - Experience with Objective-C - Experience with MacOS X frameworks - Experience with CPU/memory profiling - Experience with one or more methods of RPC - Applicable communication industry experience
