Juicy Bits has announced that its iPhone app Halftone has won a place in Apple’s App Store Rewind 2011 for best photography apps.

The developer confirms in a report that Halftone has garnered over 1 million users and a 41/2 star rating in the App Store since its launch in February 2011.

Listed among the top 100 photography apps worldwide, Halftone was recently updated to version 1.7.1. The new version adds support for new cropping and rotation features, as well as a bunch of user-requested image adjustments. Those include brightness, contrast, and saturation.

Additionally, users can choose from multiple title captions now, and there’s a new "Santa hat" stamp. The developer also added support for EXIF "date taken". This feature requires approval for location information.

Mike Swanson, Founder of Juicy Bits, says that he is "both surprised and flattered that Apple has recognized Halftone in App Store Rewind 2011. There are many outstanding apps on the list, and it's an honor to be included next to them."

A statement signed Juicy Bits on the iTunes App Store also reveals that Halftone has been featured in the "New and Noteworthy" and "What's Hot" sections.

“Over 1 million downloads! Thank you to all of our users for your great feature suggestions,” said Juicy Bits.

Some noteworthy key features of Halftone include iOS 5 face detection for balloon placement, the ability to work with full size images, control of halftone dot size (including the ability to turn them off), and others.

Halftone goes for $0.99 USD (or equivalent pricing in other currencies) and is currently an iOS exclusive. The universal app works just as well on iPad as it does on iPhone (if not better), and requires iOS 4.0 or later.
