The flaws were already patched for OS X customers in the latest Lion release

The 7.7.1 version of QuickTime for Windows will protect users from potential attacks that may have utilized the flaws present in the previous version of the application.

While most of the weaknesses were already patched on Mac OSX with the release of Lion 10.7.2, on Microsoft operating systems customers only now will benefit from protection against application crashes and execution of arbitrary code.

Before the update, a buffer overflow issue in the way the application handled certain movie files could have allowed an attacker to take over the machine.

A cross-site scripting flaw that existed in the player's Save for Web export feature could have resulted in the same outcome.

Make sure to update the software to completely protect your device.
