A software update update addressing an issue where MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010) computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video is now available for download. Customers who are unable to fix their video issues via software update can take their Mac to Apple.

Targeting OS X 10.7.2 users with 15-inch MacBook Pros from 2010, MacBook Pro Video Update 1.0 is tasked with fixing an issue where 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video.

According to a knowledge-base article on Apple’s Support site, “Apple has determined that a small number of MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video on the built-in display or on an external display connected to the MacBook Pro.”

Customers who find themselves in this situation, “may also see a restart warning message before the video is lost or the display turns black or gray.”

Cupertino acknowledges that the batch of computers experiencing these issues were manufactured between April 2010 and February 2011.

To try and fix this issue the old-fashioned way, Apple is offering customers the aforementioned MacBook Pro Video Update.

“Run Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your computer to version 10.7.2, then install MacBook Pro Video Update 1.0,” Apple says. “If the symptoms persist after installing the update, select one of the service options below,” the company says.

The program targets computers with OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 and lets customers set up a free appointment with a Genius, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or Apple Technical Support (for local service options).

The company in Cupertino says it will run a software diagnostic test to see if your Mac needs servicing. Additionally, Apple notes that “this worldwide Apple program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the affected MacBook Pro.”
