Apple has posted a support document on its web site outlining the particularities posed by apps that were designed for its iPhone and iPod touch devices, but are still compatible with the company’s tablet computer.

Apple explains for those who are new to the iOS platform that “iPad runs nearly all applications, or apps, designed for iPhone and iPod touch available in the App Store.”

It outlines, though, that “the App Store also features many applications designed specifically for iPad,” noting that the purpose of the article in question is to offer “resources and tips for using apps designed for iPhone and iPod touch on the iPad.”

For starters, Apple hands customers the iPad User Guide, for information on using the App Store on iPad, including creating an iTunes Store account.

Then, the Cupertino giant offers tips for using apps designed for iPhone and iPod touch.

“Here are some things to remember when using apps designed for iPhone and iPod touch on your iPad,” Apple states.

- Apps may only work in portrait or landscape orientation. These apps will change orientation even with screen rotation lock on.

- Apps can run in their original size or expand to fill the screen. Tap the 1x or 2x icon in the bottom right of the screen to switch between sizes.

- Text and graphics may not appear as sharp when using 2x mode. If you prefer sharper text and graphics, use 1x instead.

- Some features may not be available on iPad (for example, apps that let you make phone calls or use the iPhone camera to take pictures).

Finally, those in need of further assistance can check out the documentation for troubleshooting apps designed for iPhone and iPod touch.

“If you are unable to use an app designed for iPhone or iPod touch on the iPad or you encounter an issue, use the following resources for information on troubleshooting App Store applications,” Apple states.
