A new Apple event is scheduled for fall of 2013, according to two independent sources citing the same October 22 date for the company’s new iPad refresh.

Current Editorials was reportedly first to break the news that Apple will be holding a second fall event this year, with a focus on new iPads, on October 22.

Then came AllThingsD with its own report, citing the same date and a few more tidbits regarding the potential announcements, the venue chosen by Apple for the showcase, etc.

The WSJ-owned blog has quite a track record of confirming Apple’s events weeks in advance.

Citing people familiar with Apple’s plans, John Paczkowski notes, “the company [Apple] will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday, October 22.”

The event will reportedly focus on the new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, “but the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well,” the sources said.

The iPad 5 will allegedly get a redesigned chassis (in accordance with all the leaks we’ve seen so far), while the iPad mini 2 will get the much-needed Retina display.

Both tablets will be equipped with the A7 chip, Paczkowski is told, but it is unclear at this point whether or not any of the two tablets will get the Touch ID fingerprint sensor introduced by Apple this year.

As far as the location of the event is concerned, potential venues include Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

According to the sources, the event will not be held at the California Theatre in San Jose, leaving the aforementioned locations as the most likely choices for the showcase.
