Apple is matching the iPhone 4S prices of major carriers and retailers in the US, allowing customers to get the latest Apple smartphone for as little as $149.99 (about 122 EUR) with a two year contract.

Initially reported by a source close to MacRumors, the discount is likely made for customers who arrive in-store with evidence that other retailers / carriers are selling the iPhone 4S at a lower price. However, knowing how Apple likes to be anything but uptight, chances are you’ll be able to walk in and get your discount without any papers.

The source confirmed that Apple’s new price matching policy applies only to retail stores. The offer is not available for orders through the company’s online store.

Of course, we feel obliged to tell everyone who has been living under a rock lately that Apple is about to announce and release a new generation of iPhones this fall.
