Making it more affordable

Any mobile phone that would be available through At&t would come with a rebate or instant discount. Actually, any phone except for one. Some may have figured out from the start that we're talking about the iPhone here. And from the first announcements, Apple had no plans to offer the iPhone at a lower price with any kind of discount, regardless of the contract.

Customers wouldn't generally be interested in any phone that doesn't come with a cut price upon purchase, but again, the iPhone is an exception, as it is the most highly anticipated handset of the year. In fact, it is most likely that even if Apple raised the phone's price even higher upon release, most people would still consider buying one.

Well, recently, according to American Technology Research, Apple is finally starting to give such a deal a thought and rumor has it that the company may be considering a $50 to $150 rebate, possibly depending on the model purchased.

This of course is great news for all the iPhone fans out there that might be able to get the 8GB iPhone for a considerable amount of money, less than the $600 price tag the phone is expected to sport. With so many surveys and reports that revealed the rather large number of people that would buy the iPhone, if it were slightly cheaper, maybe Apple finally came to the decision that it is wise to attract as many customers as possible.

Reportedly, from At&t's point of view, a rebate is a great marketing tool for enticing customers to sign up for a 2 year voice and data cell phone plan that usually costs around $75-100 per month. Apparently, Apple will also be getting a 'bounty' for each At&t customer that signs up through its retail and online stores.
